A neighbor boy – from a family we don’t know well – took his own life on Tuesday. Peter was over at his friend’s house, and they saw an ambulance come to the neighbor’s house. But it wasn’t there for the boy, but for a family member who had just heard the news.
The boy was just 15. He had taken the family car to the highway, and apparently parked at the side of the road. The police found the seemingly abandoned car, and then found him.
It’s so sad, and so unsettling. The TV news focused on “signs of teen depression” — which made me wonder, how might that make the family feel? As if they could have prevented this? Could they have? Would it have been possible?
I don’t have any answers.
I’m so sorry…
Thank you. I feel so bad for the family. They live in the same cul-de-sac as Zan, and the boy’s two younger sisters go to Turbo and Zan’s school.
Everyone is so shocked. Zan’s mom said that the boy used to come over and play basketball with Zan’s older brother. No one had any clue that he was unhappy. He was an athlete and had even been on the sports pages a few times.
Like I said, I don’t know them very well, but it’s still so jarring. Turbo was a little freaked out and has wanted to watch the news the past few nights to see if there would be anything about our neighbor.
(I know this is uncharacteristically downer-y, but it’s been on my mind these past few days and I needed to acknowledge it somehow. Thanks for listening.)
that’s terrible, d’.
i’m very sorry too. it’s just awful…
Wow, how horrible! I am so sorry. I hope Turbo and Zan are ok, it has got to be hard at that age.
