Two whole days in a row I’ve been up and about before 8 a.m., so I figure it’s a trend and I can write about it. Yesterday I stayed up when the kids left for school, and I showered right away so I could go shopping. Yes, shopping. My main motivation was yarn on sale at Michael’s, which must mean I’m really into this whole knitting thing. But hey, Homespun for $3.59? I’m right on it. I actually accomplished a bit of the Christmas shopping as well. Go, me!
Today I decided it would be a great idea to go to the gym before work. Can you imagine? I was exercising by 7:45. And I lived. Now I’m showered and blogging, and thinking about having some yerba mate today instead of my usual coffee. Freaky. But cool.

Our basement project is about to begin. In preparation, Pete packed away the drum set, moved the stereo upstairs, and stacked our various boxes in the corner that isn’t going to be finished off. Other than the piano and the computer, it’s empty now. Oh, and the video collection. I’m planning to box those up this week, as soon as we have some boxes.
All in all, we accomplished quite a lot today. I’d still love to have another four-day weekend, truth be told.

So I was bored. After a year or so of streak maintenance and bangs-growing, I decided it was time for something completely different. The kids were all, “What did you do to your hair?!?” and “Aaaaaagggggghhhhhh!”
But I kinda like it. I really do prefer hair on my forehead, as long as it’s not the kind that requires shaving.

We had our casual Thanksgiving yesterday, and everything tasted wonderful. Sure, we were running around the kitchen all morning, but that was part of the fun.
We had organic everything from the farm, so it truly was a harvest feast. My parents seemed to enjoy it, too. (But they didn’t have any of the tofurky.)

Ack! Ack! Ack! How could it be after midnight already? I had a massage, knitted, watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with the kids, boiled sweet potatoes and checked my email. There is way too much to do in the morning for me to be lollygagging on the computer.
When was the last time you heard anyone say, “lollygagging”?
I’m actually looking forward to the day, though. My parents are joining us for tofurky, and my mom’s bringing chocolate pie. Pete and I are going to make a pumpkin pie (oh, we baked the pumpkin tonight, too), candied sweet potatoes and garlic mashed potatoes. We’ll also heat up some frozen green beans from the summer’s produce stash. The tofurky is the easiest part — just throw it in the oven and heat up the gravy.
Oh, the pictures I’ll take.

I’ve been amusing myself with this, which is part of this.
It gets my mind off all the stuff I need to do by tomorrow noon, when my parents arrive for Tofurky dinner.

Pete and I had a date last night. We went to see the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the new organ at the Overture Center. It was truly magnificent, although I was sleepy during the first part of the concert due to the mound of pasta I had for dinner. For once, we didn’t dine at Peacemeal. In fact, the restaurant was closed for the evening, which made us worry that it might be in financial trouble or something. (We’re still worried. Anyone out there know?) Anyway, we went to Tutto Pasta instead, which was pretty good but not our beloved vegan landmark.
Today I continued my cultural endeavors by taking Peter and his friend to see the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. It was pretty trippy. I learned that buttcracks are guaranteed to get a huge response from the audience and are the epitome of hilarity. David Hasselhoff, too.
The kids and I watched Footloose on DVD this evening as I knitted. Perhaps I shall knit a lovely pair of striped legwarmers when I am finished with my current project. Or maybe not.

Earlier this month, I dyed Angelica’s hair. The thing is, I was a little too careful with the hairline, and she ended up with blonde roots. On the other hand, maybe I wasn’t careful enough, because her flange ended up with pink dye in intermittant places. I do like the color a lot, though. It’s Rit fuschia.
So I decided about a week later to give her bangs. It was scary, but I followed the directions at Puchimadam and I really like the results. (Okay, I did get a little help from a stylist at the shop on the corner. She thinned the bangs a bit. The surprising thing is that she had thought Angelica came with bangs to begin with … so I must have done an okay job.

The parent-teacher conference yesterday didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know, but sometimes it’s nice to hear people confirm that your kid is awesome and smart. Afterwards I came home and spent quality time with Moon (who had the day off school), watching the first few episodes of BtVS Season 6. I actually had planned to visit my friend Theresa and talk about businessy things, but we ended up rescheduling.
Have I mentioned my new business? I’m doing web design part-time at home. Theresa inspired me. I’ve set up as a LLC, and my site is up. It’s still very much in the beginning stages.
Anyway, I’m once again enjoying a typical lazy Saturday morning, still in my pajamas. The timer for my coffee just went off. Life is good.

After a quiet Thursday night of knitting and watching Buffy with the kids, what could be better than curling up with my blog nestled on my lap? Yeah, the laptop is working like a dream. Ahhhh.
Knitting is pretty cool, too. My shawl-to-be is starting to actually look like something. It’s so surprising to see a pattern emerge from just knit, purl, repeat. Like magic. I’m astounded that it works. The piece is 90 stitches across, and I have about two inches or so done. Only 60 more to go.
This morning Pete and I met with Peter’s teacher, and were a little surprised to discover that he’s been handing in his work and behaving well in class. Who knew? Daresay this was the best parent-teacher conference ever.
Tomorrow we meet with Moon’s teacher. And it’s my day off, and the beginning of a wonderful weekend.

Today’s horoscope:
Technology is very much going to play a role in your life, both for today and the immediate future. It may be that your office is going through a complete systems overhaul, and you are the one in charge of getting everyone up to speed on the new equipment. Or, it is possible that you decide to take a class to increase your technical knowledge. One thing that is clear is that you are likely to achieve extraordinary success through the use of technological innovations.

Wendy, my TIB buddy in Dublin (also known as honeymonkey) surprised Xanthe with this rockin’ jacket today. It was so fun seeing an envelope addressed to Xanthe!
Of course she had to try it on right away.

All hail, it is here! Now all I need is my Airport card, and I’ll be set.
This little laptop is so cute, it’s too bad Apple isn’t making them anymore. My theory is that they were too loveable for corporate America. It wouldn’t do to have business people hugging their laptops and kissing their little foreheads. (The apple is right on the forehead, you know.)
In this case, I’d rather reuse/recycle than buy new. (It’s way less expensive, too.)

Some random thoughts.
- I was so sleepy last night that I was actually in bed by 11 pm. Thus I was out of bed and awake before 7 this morning. Maybe I’m transforming into a morning person!
- The Northern Lights were visible Sunday night, did I mention that? I totally saw them. They flicker. It was one of the coolest things ever, almost as cool as seeing a real live tornado but less life-threatening.
- Peter had massive fits yesterday morning because I had washed his waffle-weave shirts and they weren’t dry in time for school. Later he thought it was hilarious that they were called “waffle” shirts. One thing about him … he doesn’t bury his feelings. He emotes, and he’s done. (He won’t get ulcers, he’ll give ‘em.)
My new-used eBay laptop is coming today! At least that’s what the UPS tracking service says.

We spent yesterday afternoon at the Master Class sponsored by Good ‘n Loud Music, where Moon takes bass lessons. The students took home CDs of the play list several weeks ago. During the class, the teachers would call out the name of a song, and anyone who wanted to play could come up. (Of course, we heard each song numerous times so that everyone had a chance. Not bad when it’s the Kinks, Beatles, Green Day, Alice in Chains, etc.)
Moon was a bit nervous at first, but once she got going, she was surprised by how much fun it was. I can’t describe how cool it was to hear her bass line. *flicks Bic lighter*
One guy (not sure if he’s an instructor) did almost all the singing. SpiritMan went up and did backup for him to give him a bit of support.
Moon mentioned that there were many hot guys. I was struck by how much they looked like the boys I went to high school with in the ’70s. The hair is back!

I *love* my Rose Bud petite girl. She came to work with me on post-election Wednesday to provide some needed cheer.
As you can see, she found the coffee. (Wanna see her with the barista? Or maybe the platypus?)

I’m more out of it than I thought. I just discovered that I’ve been wearing my underpants sideways all morning. No wonder they felt a little snug. (And I thought it was just too much Halloween candy.)

You may fall into a very pessimistic attitude, D. Suddenly everything looks bleak and the glass half empty. You may feel like your life is going around in circles and you may be asking yourself what you are doing it all for, anyway. Realize that you can talk yourself out of this mood just as easily as you have talked yourself into it. Although this may not seem to be the case, you must trust that it is in order to see the glass as half full again.
